The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire is the most widely used questionnaire of its kind in the world. It has been translated into many languages and is thoroughly supported with over 50 years of research and development.
It helps individuals to identify which one of 16 different personality types they are by looking at the preferences they have for certain behaviours over others. This can be very useful for individual development, gaining self-awareness and is excellent for team-building. People often find the personal insights they gain are invaluable when it is used during coaching.
There are two formats of the MBTI questionnaire - Step I and Step II. Here at Arrowsmith Training Consultancy, we are licensed practitioners for both.
Step I is the starting point and sorts people into one of the 16 personality types. For an individual it takes around 2 hours to go through the whole process, whilst a team of 8-10 is best tackled by devoting an entire day to allow time for group and individual reflection.
Step II is a follow on from Step I (although both can be done at the same event) and looks at each of the preference areas in more detail. It sheds light on why people with the same personality type can be so different, and also why sometimes individuals with different personality types can seem similar in certain ways.
